Find Out How To Manage Madden 11 Tournaments With Friends

The Madden NFL syndicate is a huge outfit in the video game market. This is one of the most popular EA Sports release, be it in the XBox 360 version, Playstation, Nintendo or the PC version. It is awaited for eagerly throughout the world. Madden 11 tournaments are held throughout America and they have enthusiastic participants of various age groups. If you are thinking of hosting one of them, there are certain things you have to be aware of.

Not all of these contests are played for reward money and monetary prizes. Some are held unofficially between friends, playing for fun. However, for tournaments and for contests held on television, the reward is substantially more. The top notch, experienced players take part in these and take game play seriously to win the top spot.

Any competition is credible only if fairness is assured in the proceedings and the selection of the winner. There is not a set a of standardized rules that have to be adhered to. However, most of these events follow more or less the same basic rules. If you are hosting a competition, ensure that it is fair and that all the players stick to the common rules. The controller and the console are usually provided by the organisers. Under no circumstances are the players supposed to use their own. This is obviously to eliminate chances of tampering. Tampering is dealt with severely in these events, most likely with the player getting booted. All the players are given similar controllers and consoles to ensure fair play.

Every competition must have a referee to judge in case of disputes. They have a range of duties to fulfill. Not only do they have to supervise game play, being alert to note any attempts at foul play but they also have to ensure the tournament proceeds in a fair manner. They are responsible to ensure good conduct of all the players and also to enforce dress code. They can rule on what is the appropriate time to pause game play. Referees also should be well versed in technical details so that they can recognise any cheating attempt by the players. Especially, if the players try to take advantage of any bugs in the game. Like any other game, there are chances of technical glitches being present and the referees have to be familiar with these to ensure no player utilizes them to his advantage. Any usage of vulgar language is generally frowned upon and also abusing the referee, verbally or physically, can land the player an instant disqualification. When play is on, no interaction with the spectators is allowed. Using a headset, damaging equipment, physical abuse of referee all can land the player penalties. In extreme cases, the player can be booted. You must clearly get the rules across to the players, including the punishment for not sticking to them.

No game 'fixing' is tolerated and any attempts to do so will get the player booted. Madden 11 tournaments rules vary according to the type of event. A live game will have slightly different rules from an online one. You may also have to stipulate the duration of game play, the speed of game and the difficulty settings.

If EA Sports Calls, Don't Answer

Perhaps the most highly anticipated video game every year is the Madden NFL series from EA Sports. The Madden football games took the nascent video game industry by storm, and haven't slowed down yet. In order to get shots of all the rookies in their new jerseys, the Madden development team shows up to the annual NFL entry draft. The competetive side of the phenomenon has grown too, and now hundreds of pro Madden players make tons of money playing in tournaments. There is no other anuual release of any tyoe that demands the attention of Madden -- and the devotion, as bceomes clear when thousands of people take the day off work.

For all the good that comes with the hype and hysteria of Madden NFL, there is a downfall to the game's yearly release. For the 12 years Madden has been boasing an annual cover athlete, those athletes chosen seem to either play poorly that year, or suffer serious and season-ruining injury.

In the first week of the 2009 season, the Madden curse had already reared it's ugly head. For the first time in the series' history, two players graced the cover of Madden NFL 10. Defending Super Bowl Champion safety of the Pittsburgh Steelers Troy Polamalu goes head-to-head with one of the men he covered in the big game last February, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. In the Steelers' first regular season game, and Troy Polomalu's first after being put on the cover of Madden 10, he injured his ankle while blocking a field goal. The Steelers had to play the rest of the season without their star defensive player.

You'd think that the NFL would have leraned it's leason by now. Athletes are notoriously superstitious, and next time Madden comes a callin', most would be better off to just decline. As history has shown, going on the Madden NFL cover is almost guaranteed to affect a player, and probably his team, negatively.

Some Hisrotical Examples:

2002: Second-year quarterback Daunte Culpepper graced the cover for 2002, but was only able to follow-up an NFC Championship appearance the previous year by missing the final five games of the 2001 season with a knee injury as the Vikings missed the playoffs with a 5-11 record.

2003: As the 2003 cover athlete, St. Louis Rams running back Marshall Faulk had an ankle injury all season and failed to reach 1,000 rushing yards for the first time since 1996, while the Rams team went 7-9 and missed the playoffs.

2004: For the third year straight, the cover athlete of Madden suffered injury. In 2003, it was QB Mike Vick, who missed the entire season due to preseason injury. Without him, the Falcons went 5-11.

2006: Donovan McNabb was featured on the cover of Madden 06, and in week one of the 2005 season, you guessed it, Donovan McNabb suffered a hernia. It plagued ihim all season, and he eventually missed the last 7 games of the season.

That's the history of the curse. So, what will happen to this year's cover star?
